Help!

This page lists things to do in an emergency. Considering how often people crash or have issues in Second Life, you’ll get plenty of practice.

Is SL down?

Check the following sites:

If you ask R. if there are grid problems, she will scream these two locations at you.

Seriously, bookmark these.

Orange cloud?

Perform the first of these, then ask if people can see you.

If not, progress to the next action.

  • Take something off and then put it back on.
  • Teleport out, then teleport back in.
  • Relog.

Can’t find your mover

If you can’t find your mover, do the following:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. Use Area Search.
  3. If Area Search returns no results, just look for the number.
  4. Increase your bandwidth and cache texture and asset sizes in Firesstorm?
  5. If Area Search doesn’t let you sit, someone else is sitting on the mover.
  6. Ask for help.

If you were AFK or nothing is rezzing, and the Reserve is covering for you, you’re now the Reserve.

Rez fail

If you see Attempt to rez object failed error, do the following:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. Look at our outfit folder. The rezfailed item will not be attached.
  3. Look for the same item in another routine. (hand, body, feet, eyes, feet, etc.)
  4. Add it.

If that doesn’t work, do the following:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. Announce rezfail to the conference.
  3. Teleport home.
  4. Add the routine folder again.
  5. Wait for it all to attach.
  6. Get backstage with one of the following methods.
    • Use your landmark to the backstage..
    • In the show conference chat, ask for a teleport backstage. IF YOU TELEPORT SOMEONE, DO NOT MOVE!
    • Or use the SLURL link in Firestorm’s Nearby Chat to return to that spot. YOU MAY BE FORCED TO THE LANDING POINT!
    • Or use Firestorm’s Back button to go back to that spot.
  7. In the show conference chat, announce that you’re back.

If the performance region is full, you might need to wait until somebody leaves.

Only log off and reboot in case of extreme viewer issues.

Missing Pieces

If others see something missing from you, such as a sword or a head or feet, do the following:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. Is it your alphas? Fix your alphas.
  3. In the menu, click Avatar.
  4. Click Avatar Health.
  5. Click Refresh Attachments.

If that doesn’t work, do the following:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. Look for the same item in another routine. (hand, body, feet, eyes, feet, etc.)
  3. Add it.

If others say you look weird, try to solve the problem, but be prepared to step off your mover and yield to the reserve for that routine.

Only log off and reboot in case of extreme viewer issues.

Stuck in a pose

If you are stuck in a pose after standing do the following:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. In the menu, click Avatar.
  3. Click Avatar Health.
  4. Click Stop Avatar Animations and Revoke Permissions.

Crash!

If you crash, do the following:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. If you have anyone on Facebook or another chat system, let them know you crashed.
  3. Check SL Grid Status on Twitter https://twitter.com/SLGridStatus or their blog https://status.secondlifegrid.net/
  4. Log back in to your home. DO NOT LOG BACK IN TO YOUR LAST LOCATION OR YOU WILL APPEAR ON STAGE LIKE AN IDIOT.
  5. In the Debauche group chat, ask for a teleport backstage and to be reinvited to the show conference.
  6. Wait until you’re back in the conference and then ask for instructions from the stage manager. Do not assume you should get back on your mover.

If someone crashes, the first reserve should be wearing the Crash Watch Monitor and automatically jump to that mover. Just accept the permissions dialog.

If they need to do this manually, then they will do the following:

  1. You better be dressed for the routine.
  2. Cam to their feet quickly. (If you’re super-smart, prep an Area Search beforehand and then when they crash, run it and right-click sit their mover)
  3. Wait for them to vanish.
  4. Sit on their mover
  5. Accept permissions
  6. Accept praise in the show conference chat

Can’t make it to the show

Things happen. We are more worried for you than we are about the show. You come first. Try to IM Laura, Sev, or Geordie as soon as possible to let them know you can’t make it to a show.

If you can’t get into SL, if you have an email address or Facebook friend in the group that you trust, send a message to them so they can pass the message along. Several of us are available on KIK, Telegram, Facebook, Discord, and other media. But get confirmation that they received your message.

You can also use the Contact Us form on this site to ping R. who can pass the word along. Or email r@debauche.dance.

Missing inventory?

If you’re missing inventory items, you might have a corrupted inventory cache. Or your cache may be out of sync with the Second Life asset servers.

When this happens, I’ll reset my cache and inventory cache:

  1. Don’t panic.
  2. Are you absolutely sure you didn’t name it something else?
  3. Open Preferences (Control-P)
  4. Click the Network & Files tab, then the Directories top tab.
  5. Click the Clear Inventory Cache button.
  6. Click the Clear Cache button.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Restart your viewer.
  9. Wait about 5 minutes for things to load.

The bigger your inventory, the longer it will take to load.
