(It’s odd when I hear people who say “Believe the Science!” when they’re as likely to “Blame SL!” when something goes wrong. This platform does not run on voodoo and magic. There may be bugs and lag, but it’s still logical.

I have a degree in Biology and Biochemistry, but that was over 30 years ago, so it’s been a while since I’ve performed a formal experiment. Hence the unprofessional template)

Multiple Maitreya HUDS

QUESTION

Do save slots on the Maitreya Lara 5.3 HUD save on the server or on the object?

THEORY

It saves in the object because client-server storage with Miaitreya would require traffic between SL and an outside server, storage and bandwidth costs, etc. Storing the data locally on the object itself would be the fastest and cheapest way to go for them.

EXPERIMENT

Make 2 copies of HUD
Set different alphas for Slot 1
Wear each HUD and click Slot 1 and Load
Observe results

THEORY

If the HUDs alpha the same parts, they save universally on the Maitreya server or in the body.
If the HUDs alpha different parts, they save in the individual copies of the HUD.

CONFIGURATION

1. Create one full copy Maitreya Lara 5.3 body.
2. Create two folders called HUD 1 and HUD 2
3. Put full copies of the Maitreya Mesh Body – Lara HUD v5.3 in each folder.
4. Add HUD 1
5. Hide body part (Legs)
6. Save to Slot 1
7. Show All
8. Detach HUD 1
9. Add HUD 2
10. Hide body part (Arms)
11. Save to Slot 1
12 Show All
13. Detach HUD 2

TEST 1

I wore HUD 1, clicked Slot 1, and clicked Load
Arms vanished

TEST 2

I took off HUD 1, wore HUD 2, and clicked Load
Arms reappeared, legs vanished

TEST 3

I took off HUD 2, wore HUD 1, and clicked Load
Legs reappeared, arms vanished

TEST 4

I took off HUD 1, wore HUD 2, and clicked Load
Arms reappeared, legs vanished

CONCLUSION

Unless my testing methods are inaccurate, I think we have an answer… the alpha save slots are stored in individual copies of the HUD.
If you are not seeing this:
1) You may be using links to the save copy of the HUD.
2) I’ve had too much bleach to drink.
3) Blame Ixie. (It’s about time we blamed her for something)

Multiple Maitreya Bodies

QUESTION

If you save a full copy of a Maitreya body in a folder, does it save the body’s alpha status?

THEORY

It saves the alpha status because that’s saved in the body object itself. Client-server storage with Miaitreya would require traffic between SL and an outside server, storage and bandwidth costs, etc. Storing the data locally on the object itself would be the fastest and cheapest way to go for them.

EXPERIMENT

Make 2 copies of the body
Set different alphas for each body
Wear each body
Observe results

THEORY

If the body preserves last alpha state, they save universally on the Maitreya server or in the body.
If the body preserves last alpha state, they save in the individual copies of the HUD. (Or the person used a linked copy of the body)

CONFIGURATION

1. Create one full copy Maitreya Lara 5.3 body.
2. Create two folders called BODY 1 and BODY 2
3. Put full copies of the Maitreya Mesh Body in each folder.
4. Add BODY 1
5. Hide body part (Legs)
5. Replace Outfit With BODY 2
6. Hide body part (Arms)

TEST 1

I wore BODY 1
Legs were missing

TEST 2

I wore BODY 2
Arms were missing

TEST 3

I wore BODY 1
Legs were missing

TEST 4

I wore BODY 2
Arms were missing

CONCLUSION

Unless my testing methods are inaccurate, I think we have an answer… full copy bodies preserve the alpha state.

If you are not seeing this:
1) You are using an older version than 5.3. Upgrade as time allows, but sooner rather than later.
2) Your clothing has alpha scripts that alter the behavior of the body. Save the final alpha configuration in a full copy of a HUD and use that save slot after your body loads.
3) I’ve had too much bleach to drink.
4) Blame Ixie. (It’s about time we blamed her for something)

Congratulations on passing the tests. Please deposit your Companion Cube in the Companion Cube Reclamation Chute and proceed to the next chamber.
