Contact Lists

I created a Firestorm Contact list for Debauche family. It contains the Debauche family.

I set Firestorm to only show Online and Offline toaster for Debauche family.

  1. In the menu bar, click Communication.
  2. Click Contact Sets.
  3. Click the plus symbol (+) button.
  4. Enter a name.
  5. Click Create.
  6. In the drop-down name list, select the new contact list.
  7. Click Add.
  8. Select names (PRO TIP: Use the Near Me tab when in Rehearsal to get most of us.)
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the dialog box.
  11. Click the Set Color box.
  12. Select a color (yes, even pink).
  13. Click OK.

Now, when I see an Offline toaster during a show, I know it’s important.

If it’s someone in the current routine and I’m the backup, time to get my ass on the mover when they vanish.

Color text

You can set a color for the group. This will tint their text as well as their hovering name tag.

That way they stand out in the chat as well as in-world.

If you create another contact list called Debauche Mummy, you can differentiate Sev and Laura from the rest of the dancers.

Then you can color-code their text so that they stand out in the chat a little more.

The Bad list

There are people in Second Life Dance that I’d rather not deal with. Defriendings, drama, arguments, and so on. It’s all a part of life, second or first or otherwise.

But they sometimes appear in group acts that I’m photographing, so I can’t mute or derender them without ruining the shot.

So, I created another list called The Bad.

I set it to the color red, so their names and text appear in red.

It adds a bit of melodrama to the chat and scenery, sure, but it reminds me not to engage or deal with them.

(I still mute and derender a handful of the truly irredeemable, and those people who include them in acts just won’t get photographed. Oh well.)

Online Notifications toggle

I like to focus online notifications on just Debauche people so I can quickly see when one of us crashes.

But when I’m not at the show, I like to see when friends log in and off.

The answer is to add a Quick Preference for ChatOnlineNotifications.

This allows you to toggle which logins and logouts appear in notifications.
